We come alive when we feel seen. I believe this starts with understanding ourselves with compassion so we can do the same for each other.
Hi! I’m Sapna, an intern therapist at Counselling & Co. I look forward to meeting and providing you with the support, care and connection which will nourish the foundation and growth of your therapeutic experience. As we work together, we will focus inward, exploring and expanding on your nature, needs and desired experiences in life. We will discover what it means to find alignment in your choices, actions and mindset, creating more balance and ease. Together, we will witness the ripple effect of your growth outward through your relationships and your contributions within your community. Therapy can be hard and even uncomfortable at times, but I will be here by your side, challenging you and cheering you on.
I love working with people through pregnancy into the lifelong journey of parenthood. This is often when we begin to face some of the labels we have assumed and challenge parts of our identity that either feel hard to access or are no longer aligned. Regardless of where you fall, I will be here to support you as you explore your desires for freedom and choice and feel more alignment in your parenting and partnering but most of all, your relationship with yourself.
As a first-generation Canadian and the daughter of immigrants, I am attuned to understanding intersecting identities. I will bring a culturally responsive and collaborative stance into our work, as we explore the nuanced intersectionalities of your identity. I also have lived experience being in an interracial/intercultural marriage. As you can imagine, I do understand the beautifully challenging dance of parenting mixed-race, multicultural kids in a neurodiverse household. I am invested in learning about your unique struggles and experiences, as we dive into these often complex but incredibly important parts of your identity or identities as a couple.
Supporting adolescents is also an area of focus of my clinical practice. Working for years in education and as a guidance counsellor and teacher, has taught me just how difficult it is to be a teenager in today's world. Our adolescents are faced with concerns and challenges that different generations find so difficult to navigate, understandably so. I really enjoy supporting teens in learning about themselves, what lights up their lives and what they find makes it challenging to live comfortably and confidently in their world.
Why Work With Me
I believe that the therapeutic process can be an empowering resource to help inform, develop, support, and integrate emotional growth and well-being into your daily life. I will invite you to be curious about why we struggle to be vulnerable and how much courage it takes to see softness as a strength, rather than a weakness. There is a way to live more comfortably and confidently in the world and I can't wait to discover this with you.
In our sessions, we will co-create safety, so that you feel at ease to explore different emotional states, expressions and ways of being. This can be such a helpful tool to increase your capacity and skill to go out into the world and test out these new ways of being.
Our sessions will provide time and space for you to share and explore areas of your life openly, and honestly. We will work together to clarify meaningful goals, which might include:
Developing healthy coping skills
Navigating life transitions and challenges
Attuning to your emotions with greater compassion & ease
Deepening your connection with yourself and others
Clarifying your inner voice & building self-advocacy skills
Understanding and nurturing your child's development
Gaining insight and understanding of your past and how it impacts your present life
Processing grief and loss
Exploring the internal and external aspects of your cultural identities
Learn to trust your inner voice & live more authentically
Clarifying your values and working towards a future that inspires you
Professional Background
I draw from almost fifteen years in education as a teacher, guidance counsellor, and certified Conscious Parenting Coach.
Through this professional work, and my experience as a mom and wife, I have become deeply committed to living, working, and parenting more consciously.
To me, ‘more consciously’ means consistently and compassionately aligning my thoughts, feelings, and actions with the freest, clearest, most generous, and joyful parts of me.
Things I Bet You Didn't Know About Me
I am a certified Conscious Parenting Method Coach trained under Dr. Shefali Tsabary
I believe art, and the creative process serve as a pathway to clarity, expression, healing, and freedom. I have witnessed this while facilitating therapeutic art programs for elite athletes, at-risk & housing insecure youth, people facing terminal illness, and their grieving families.
I'm an artist! My art and design work runs parallel to my work as a therapist by exploring themes of connection, impermanence, awe, nature, and mothers/mothering. It continues to serve as a way to share ideas, process experiences, explore questions, and to stay soft.
I believe that dogs are one of life’s truest joys and I hope to have a therapeutic canine partner in the near future.
