I want to help you see yourself and your relationships with clarity and understanding

Hi there, I’m Shannon, a married mom of three teens and one fur-son (a goldendoodle named Jonah). Over the years, I have worked as a teacher and a freelance writer, which I thoroughly enjoyed. But… I also held onto another career dream– to be a psychotherapist! In 2019, I was reminded of the fragility of life when both a close friend and a family member died within months of each other. The deaths of these two loved ones compelled me to reflect on my own life. As a result, the following year, I started graduate school with the plan to fulfill my long-time dream. I am both grateful and honoured to be here, doing this work and connecting with you.

I hold a special interest in supporting people through grief, loss, and transitional stages like those experienced throughout early adulthood, parenthood, marriage, and midlife. I also enjoy working with creative individuals, to overcome mental blocks or low motivation, and with men who want to understand and express themselves with more emotional awareness.

My training in Emotionally Focused Therapy and Brainspotting enables me to provide therapy options that are thorough, personalized, evidence-based, and integrative. In our sessions together, you will be invited to process and consolidate your emotions and experiences, so deeper clarity and connection (with self and others) can be gained.

Why Work With Me

Expect a bit of humour, but never any judgment. Not only is my approach down-to-earth and client-centered, but I aim to honour your comfort level while encouraging you to occasionally step outside of it. I will hold space for you, ask contemplative questions of you, and support you toward a deeper understanding of yourself and your relationships.

  • Take the space and time to experience grief and process loss

  • Feel confident as you navigate a new phase in your life

  • Find freedom from creative blocks or low motivation

  • Process and consolidate your emotions and experiences

  • Reconnect with or redefine yourself in more fulfilling ways

  • Face unexpected change with support

  • Understand and find empathy for yourself and your partner

  • Revive hope

  • Build communication and connection within your relationship

Choosing to connect with a therapist is a brave step and I’m glad you’re exploring some therapy options. Remember, it’s important to find someone that feels like a good fit for you, so take your time during this search. If you feel like reaching out, please do. I would be happy to meet with you for a 15-minute consultation to see if I might be a fit.

Professional Background

I am a Registered Psychotherapist in good standing with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario. I have a Master of Arts in Counselling and Psychology.

Working with individuals and couples, through an Emotionally Focused lens, has been such an integral part of my work. I have therefore completed advanced training in EFT, through the International Centre of Excellence for Emotionally Focused Therapy.

Grief and loss is a large part of my clinical focus, so it only made sense to pursue training in loss and grief, which I completed through the Seleni Institute. Processing your grief can take time and feeling supported in this process, can make a profound difference.

Brainspotting is another evidence-based model I pull from in my therapeutic practice. It's incredibly integrative and expansive, allowing me to use it in session in a variety of ways. I would love to chat more with you about how Brainspotting can help you achieve your therapeutic goals.
